Back in September 2011, Avis South Africa pledged their support to the Cape Leopard Trust, by sponsoring the Boland Project the use of a Toyota Hilux Double Cab 4x4 for research in the Boland mountains. The Boland researchers covered over 30 000 km in this eye-catching vehicle, criss-crossing their study areas of the Limietberg, Jonkershoek, Hottentots-Holland, Groenlandberg and Kogelberg mountains as well as the surrounding towns. Avis has once again given its support by renewing this vehicle sponsorship, and the Boland project is now the proud custodian of a new Toyota Hilux 4x4! This sponsorship from  Avis is invaluable, since a good, reliable vehicle is one of the single most important requirements for the smooth running of a field-based research project.

Considerable mileage is covered on rough, off-road terrain, and tough, high-quality tyres are indispensable. Bridgestone South Africa is the proud tyre sponsor of all of the CLT vehicles, and has fitted the Boland vehicle with brand new Dueler All Terrain tyres.

Tough tyres for a tough vehicle!

The Boland researchers often have to transport heavy equipment that can damage and dent the back of the bakkie. Tuff Guard in Goodwood, Cape Town, kindly sponsored a protective polyurethane lining for the new vehicle.

Tuff Guard’s polyurethane lining is a seamless protective lining that is impervious to water, tolerant to a wide range of temperatures and climatic conditions, and extremely resistant to abrasion, cutting and gouging, and corrosion-causing chemicals, oil, fuel and solvents.

A massive thank you to Avis for sponsoring a brilliant vehicle, and for Bridgestone and Tuff Guard for preparing the new bakkie for it’s life in the Boland mountains.  A team effort has given us a vehicle that is now well and truly ‘ready for action’.
