Namaqualand PEACE Project Gets New Wheels

Published: 06 August 2015

Thanks to the Rolf Stephan Nussbaum Foundation, and a long search for a suitable vehicle with the help of the Landcruiser Club, the PEACE (Predator Ecology & Coexistence Experiment) project finally received some much needed new wheels.

Programme Manager, Bryan Havemann, and acting CEO, Helen Turnbull, delivered the vehicle to Namaqualand for the official handover. Due to the wide scope of the of the research, Dr Bogdan Cristescu and Kristine Teichman have a team of field technicians working with them on the project, which is in partnership with Woolworths and Conservation South Africa. Distances in the northern Cape are vast, and transport is vital to keep the teams mobile and out in the field during the important data collection phase of the project.

The focus of the research is to measure the efficiency of alternative predator mitigation methods to enable wildlife friendly meat production. The project was featured recently in the SABC environment programme 50/50.
