Giving a Helping Paw

The Cape Leopard Trust recently joined our partners First National Bank for their '67 Minutes' community outreach initiative. Out of Africa Children’s Foundation desperately needed some decorating done at their Newlands house of safety.

Yvonne Murray, Branch Manager, and Samantha Bosch, Team Leader, from FNB Century City assembled some helpers, and Environmental Educators Cath Kühn and Hadley Lyners, along with Programme Manager, Bryan Havemann and Acting CEO, Helen Turnbull, seized the opportunity to get busy with the paintbrushes.

The Out of Africa Children’s Foundation offers a safe house for children and their immediate families who come from all corners of the continent to Cape Town for life saving paediatric cancer treatment. The facility means that parents and siblings can be with a sick child during a time of high anxiety in a warm and comfortable ‘home from home’ environment.

A parent’s presence is not just reassurance, it also means parents are able to learn how best to offer post treatment care and aid recovery. It was certainly a great opportunity for the CLT team to contribute positively to a good cause outside of our usual conservation comfort zone to celebrate Mandela Day.
