Urban Caracal Project fundraising dinner

Published: 02 November 2015

You are invited to join The Cape Leopard Trust and Neethlingshof Wine Estate at The Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa for an informative talk about caracal followed by an exclusive three-course dinner.

Dr. Laurel Serieys will talk about her ground-breaking research on caracal in the urban environments of the Cape Peninsula, South Africa, while guests enjoy canapés in the Milkwood conference room.

Following the presentation, Executive Chef Christo Pretorius and Neethlingshof winemaker De Wet Viljoen will serve a delectable three-course food & wine pairing dinner in the award-winning Azure Restaurant– which includes a taste of the Neethlingshof’s aptly named ‘Caracal Red Blend’. The origin of the name is explained thus: ‘Almost never seen – the Caracal’s enigmatic presence is always felt. There are signs of this beautiful cat known as the rooikat (red cat) returning to the Neethlingshof estate now that islands of Renosterveld have been re-established amongst the vines.’

The Urban Caracal Project is a partnership between the University of Cape Town, The Cape Leopard Trust, South African National Parks, and University of California, Santa Cruz. Based on a successful research and bobcat conservation project in Los Angeles, California, USA (2006 – 2014), wildlife biologist, Laurel Serieys, PhD established the Urban Caracal Project in Cape Town in September 2014 to research the population size and health of the caracal population in the Cape Peninsula.
