Exciting results from Boland camera traps

Published: 18 June 2010

We are thrilled to report on some great photos taken by our remote cameras in the Limietberg Nature Reserve over the past couple of weeks. We are having good success in terms of leopard photos with the cameras that have been monitored so far, and we’re hoping that this will continue to be the case throughout the survey period!

We received ample reward for an arduous climb up to one of our highest camera stations with this stunning leopard photo.  The heavy backpacks and jelly legs are always made worthwhile when you check the memory cards after such a strenuous hike and a photograph such as this appears on the screen!

The same camera also captured these inquisitive klipspringer – doubtlessly they are also aware – and very cautious – of the big cat patrolling this area…

The Slanghoek valley presented us with some great results.  Here we caught our first honey badger and Cape fox on camera – both animals are very rarely seen, so it’s always a treat to see such photos!

The valley is also home to this beautiful adult male leopard (M2) – and we hope to see much more of him as time progresses.

A very exciting find by a camera near the top of Bain’s Kloof is this jackal buzzard – many birders have sent us reports on leopard sightings, so we’re glad that we could also make a contribution to the bird atlas project (SABAP2: http://sabap2.adu.org.za/) through our leopard survey!
